Oshawa, Ont – While we all wait to hit the ice again at the Tribute Communities Centre, there is a way members of GensNation can get their fix. With at least 11 former Generals on NHL rosters as of Opening Night, it will be hard to turn on a game without seeing one in action.

Cal Clutterbuck: New York Islanders
An Oshawa General from 2004-2007, Clutterbuck played 158 in a Generals’ uniform scoring 175 points. His OHL career was highlighted by back-to-back seasons scoring 35 goals. He was drafted by the Minnesota Wild in the 3rd round of the 2006 NHL draft.
Clutterbuck has been in the NHL now since 2007, spending time with both the Minnesota Wild and New York Islanders. He has played 824 games while putting up 236 points. The 2020-2021 season will be his 14th NHL season.
John Tavares: Toronto Maple Leafs
Arguably one of the biggest and best players to ever wear the Generals’ logo, John Tavares played four seasons in Oshawa, including 223 games, 228 goals, and 200 assists for 428 points. In his sophomore season, Tavares scored 72 goals and 62 assists on his way to win the Red Tilson Trophy for league MVP.
Tavares was drafted first overall by the New York Islanders in the 2009 NHL draft, where he eventually served as captain from 2013-2018 before being signed by the Toronto Maple Leafs in Free Agency. The 2020-2021 season will be his 12th in the NHL.
Michael Del Zotto: Columbus Blue Jackets
Michael Del Zotto was an Oshawa General between 2006 and 2009, playing 162 games and scoring 153 points as a defenceman.
In 2008, he was drafted in the first round by the New York Rangers in 2008 but has suited up for multiple teams, including the Nashville Predators, Philadelphia Flyers, Vancouver Canucks, Anaheim Ducks, and St. Louis Blues. Across the six teams, Del Zotta has played 657 NHL games. The 2020-2021 season will be his first season with the Columbus Blue Jackets and his 12th in the NHL.
Boone Jenner: Columbus Blue Jackets
An Oshawa General from 2009-2013, Boone Jenner played 227 games and scored 164 points. He served as captain during the 2011-2012 and 2012-2013 seasons.
Jenner was drafted in the second round of the 2011 NHL draft by the Columbus Blue Jackets and has since played in 489 NHL games and has been an assistant captain since 2015-2016. The 2020-2021 season will be his 8th in the NHL.
Calvin De Haan: Chicago Blackhawks
Calvin De Haan was an Oshawa General from 2008-2011, playing 157 games and serving as captain during the 2010-2011 season. He scored 135 points during his time as a General.
Drafted 12th overall by the New York Islanders in the 2009 NHL draft, De Haan has spent time with the Islanders, Carolina Hurricanes, and Chicago Blackhawks for 407 NHL games. The 2020-2021 season will be his second season with the Blackhawks and his 10th in the NHL.
Scott Laughton: Philadelphia Flyers
Scott Laughton played in Oshawa between 2010 and 2014, suiting up in 230 games. He scored 96 goals and added 123 assists for 219 points during that time. Laughton was drafted 20th overall by the Philidelphia Flyers in 2012 and has been with them since.
Laughton has scored 44 goals with the Flyers and has suited up for 29 playoff games, including 15 in their 2020 bubble run. The 2020-2021 season will be his 7th in the NHL.
Andy Andreoff: Philadelphia Flyers
An Oshawa General between 2007 and 2012, Andy Andreoff played 281 games and scored 207 points.
Andreoff was drafted in the third round of the 2011 NHL draft by the Los Angeles Kings but is now playing for the Philadelphia Flyers. The 2020-2021 season will be the 6th in his NHL career.
Anthony Cirelli: Tampa Bay Lightning
The most recent Oshawa General to make a name for himself in the NHL, Anthony Cirelli played three seasons with the Oshawa Generals, for 156 games, 47 goals, and 82 assists. As everyone knows, he also scored both the tying and OT winning goal in the 2015 Memorial Cup final against the Kelowna Rockets.
Drafted by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the third round of the 2015 draft, Cirelli has played in 168 NHL games and has won a Stanley Cup. The 2020-2021 season will be his fourth in the NHL.
Josh Brown: Ottawa Senators
The captain during the 2015 championship team, Josh Brown was an Oshawa General from 2011 to 2015. He played 230 games in Oshawa before being drafted by the Florida Panthers in 2013.
Since then, Brown has joined the Ottawa Senators and will be entering his third full-time NHL season in 2020-2021.
Michael Dal Colle: New York Islanders
Michael Dal Colle played 216 games for the Oshawa Generals between 2012 and 2016, including 42 playoff and four Memorial Cup games. In four seasons he scored 108 goals and 163 assists.
He was drafted 5th overall by the New York Islanders in the 2014 NHL draft and has been in the Islanders organization since. The 2020-2021 season will be his fourth in the NHL.
Jack Studnicka: Boston Bruins
Jack Studnicka suited up for the Oshawa Generals from 2015-2019, serving as captain during the 2017-2018 and 2018-2019 seasons. In 222 games in Oshawa, Studnicka put up 56 goals and 128 assists for 184 points.
Studnicka was drafted by the Boston Bruins in the 2nd round of the 2017 NHL draft. Since then, Studnicka has joined the Bruins during their 2020 bubble. The 2020-2021 season will be the first full season Studnicka spends with the Bruins.
On opening night, three games feature former Generals hitting the ice.
