Generals and Petes set to battle for Hockey Gives Blood ‘Be A Hero Challenge’

Oshawa, Ont. – The Oshawa Generals are excited to add yet another event to our existing partnership with Hockey Gives Blood and Canadian Blood Services. The Oshawa Generals and rival Peterborough Petes will compete in the #BeAHero challenge beginning on Monday, March 15 at 9:00 am.

During this 17-day virtual challenge, each team will compete to see which fan base can add the highest number of sign-ups to the Canadian Blood Services Stem Cell Registry.

Canada’s national stem cell registry recruits healthy, committed volunteer donors (ages 17-35) to help patients across the country who are in need of a life-saving stem cell transplant. On any given day, hundreds of patients in Canada are searching for a stem cell match. Every new registrant brings hope to those waiting.

Fans, alumni, and everyone within the #GensNation community is encouraged to join the national stem cell registry via our unique URL link: blood.ca/TOG Each registrant will be required to fill out the stem cell questionnaire to find out if they are eligible, create an account with Canadian Blood Services, and complete their online profile. Every registrant added using the Oshawa Generals’ unique URL link will count as a point for the Gens. during the challenge.

The winning team will be announced on April 2 at 10:00 am and the losing team’s mascot will wear the winning team’s jersey with a photo posted across each team’s social media accounts.

Representing the Oshawa Generals in the Canada Life-sponsored Hockey Gives Blood Ambassador program is defenceman Lleyton Moore. The rival Petes will be represented by prospect Sam Alfano and fourth-year John Parker-Jones. Moore and Parker-Jones will spearhead the stem cell registry challenge.

“An event like this one is something a community needs,” says Moore. “In hard times like these, this will bring our fans together for a cause bigger than hockey. More people should know about the programs provided by Hockey Gives Blood and this will do just that.”

Additionally, members of the Oshawa community are encouraged to book an appointment to donate blood on Tuesday, March 30 during the ‘Oshawa Generals Fan Night’ blood drive from 2:00 – 8:00 pm, at the Canadian Blood Services office located at 1300 Harmony Road North.
