Drive-Thru Teddy Bear Toss returns to Oshawa

Oshawa, ON– For the second year in a row, the Oshawa Generals are excited to announce the 23rd annual Teddy Bear sponsored by Canadian Tire, will take place.

Due to our original date being postponed, as well as provincial capacity restrictions on live events, we will be hosting a Drive-Thru Teddy Bear Toss!

On Saturday, Jan. 15, #GensNation is encouraged to join the drive-thru at the Tribute Communities Centre between 10AM and 2PM to take part in this holiday tradition.

The Teddy Bear Toss gives children in need across the Durham Region an opportunity to receive a gift they may not always get to have. While Christmas may have passed, there is never a wrong time to give back to children and families in need – and GensNation has always proved this to be true. This year, the bears collected will be donated to multiple local charities around the Durham Region.

In addition to the Teddy Bear Toss, fans are asked to also bring non-perishable food items for Feed the Need in Durham.

This week we also announced fans can send in videos of them cheering on the Generals or drop off handmade signs to display around the arena while attendance is restricted. Fans are encouraged to bring their signs to the drive-thru as well, in order to have them displayed at our home games.

Please enter the drive-thru line via Bruce Street, east of the Tribute Communities Centre and continue into the back parking lot at Gate 3 of the arena. Here, we require fans to wear their masks and please stay in their vehicles at all times. Staff will come to your car and we ask that you pass your bear and/or food donations through the window to a staff member. Following the drop-off please continue through the parking lot, exiting onto Charles Street to leave the drive-thru.

About the Teddy Bear Toss in Oshawa

The first year the Generals took part in the memorable event was in the 1998-1999 season. The first-ever toss commenced when former Gens defenceman Jim Baxter potted a first period goal to send the bears through the air. Since then, the list of players to score the iconic goal include current NHL players and Gens greats like Cal Clutterbuck, Anthony Cirelli and more!

Last year, the Oshawa Generals held it’s first ever Drive-Thru Teddy Bear Toss as COVID-19 prevented the traditional event last season as well. Despite a raining and cold December day, GensNation showed out and donated more than 700 bears, $300 in cash and gift cards, and 1246 lbs. of food, or more than 1000 meals, were collected.
