General Motors Centre

The Oshawa Generals are fortunate to be able to call the General Motors Centre home.  After more than 40 years playing their home games out of the Civic Auditorium – which served the community so well during its heyday – the Generals moved to the brand new General Motors Centre right in the heart of downtown Oshawa on Athol Street in November, 2006.

The Generals first game was played on Friday, November 6th, 2006 with John Tavares scoring the first goal for the Generals in the new building against the Owen Sound Attack.

The facility is simply one of the best junior hockey arenas in the country, a state-of-the-art sports complex that is the pride of Durham Region.

The General Motors Centre has two ice pads, giving the community plenty of badly needed ice space, and has hosted major concerts and special evens such as the Tragically Hip, KISS, professional wrestling and the Harlem Globetrotters, as well as the Generals of course.

The main pad seats approximately 5,400 people for hockey and approximately 6,400 for other events, with the Generals being able to draw close to the 6,000 mark including standing room.

Giffels Design-Build Inc. and NORR Limited were the facility architects responsible for the design and construction of the GMC, while Global Spectrum manages the facility and event programming.

This premier sports and entertainment facility is providing a first-class home for the Generals, with comfortable seats and detailed interior work that has made it a big hit with local and visiting fans.

With a total project cost of $45 million, this complex also houses the Oshawa Sports Hall of Fame, Prospects Bar & Grill, executive suites, special club seating and the Generals Store in the main complex.

The Generals have been proud hosts of the 2009 Home Hardware CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game and the ADT Canada/Russia Challenge, with huge crowds attending both of those special events.
