Hockey Canada announced the rosters for Canada Black, Canada White, and Canada Red in the 2018 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge. Oshawa Generals forwards Ty Tullio will play for Canada Black and Dylan Robinson will play for Canada White.
The U-17 Hockey Challenge involves the three Canadian teams along with Finland, Czech Republic, Russia, Sweden and the United States playing in their quest for the gold medal. The teams are split into two groups, Group A and Group B, in which each team plays 3 preliminary round games before going into single-round playoff elimination. The last team standing comes away as the tournament champions and gold medal winners.
Several current Gens players have taken part in the tournament in previous years. Jack Studnicka (Canada Red) competed in the tournament in 2015, grabbing 5 points in 6 games. Allan McShane (Canada Black), Giovanni Vallati (Canada Black), and Serron Noel (Canada Red) all competed in 2016, with McShane and Vallati coming away with silver medals. Most recently, Nick Wong (Canada Red) and Mitchell Brewer (Canada White) played in 2017, with Wong winning a silver medal. Set to compete in 2018, Tullio and Robinson will be added to the long list of Gens to partake in the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.
Leading up to the tournament, Tullio attended the Under-17 Development Camp in Calgary during the summer offseason. In his rookie OHL season with the Gens so far, Tullio has notched 3 goals and 4 assists for 7 points in his first 14 games. The forward has started to heat up and adjust to OHL hockey, tallying all 3 of his goals in the last 4 games. Tullio is showing his goal scoring ability that makes him a big offensive threat and will look to carry that into the U-17 tournament with Canada Black.
Robinson also attended Canada’s National Under-17 Development Camp in Calgary, making a big impression by leading Team Black in scoring. He collected two goals and two assists and finished tied for second with four points in development camp scoring. So far in his rookie season with the Gens, Robinson has tallied 1 goal and 1 assist, scoring his first OHL goal against the London Knights on October 19th. With a strong performance in development camp, Robinson will look to replicate that for Canada White at this year’s tournament.
The 2018 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge will take place from November 3rd-10th in Saint John and Quispamsis, New Brunswick, where both Tullio and Robinson will look to help their respective team win the championship and return to Oshawa with a gold medal.
