Nico Gross Drafted in the Fourth Round to the New York Rangers
Defenceman Nico Gross has been drafted by the New York Rangers organization. Gross was selected in the 4th Round, 101st Overall in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft in Dallas, TX.
Gross was the Generals 2017 Import Draft selection and has now completed his rookie season in the Ontario Hockey League. He appeared in 58 games accumulating 4 goals and 10 assists for 14 points. Gross appeared in the Sherwin-Williams Top Prospect game in Guelph, suiting up for Team Cherry who took home the victory.
Heading into the 2018 NHL Draft, Nico took part in the NHL Combine held in Buffalo the first weekend in June, giving the team’s a chance to interview him and assess his physical fitness. Nico along with his teammates Allan McShane and Serron Noel attended the event with other top prospects for this year’s draft.
“Nico came to North America last year and simulated himself well to our team and the style of play we strive for. He showed he can play a real North American style of game and this is what made him popular amongst NHL teams” said Vice President and General Manager, Roger Hunt on Gross’ style of game.
Gross has played for his country on numerous occasions at an international level and twice at World Junior Hockey Championships. This past December he was an assistant captain on the team at the World Juniors and saw high praise amongst the media covering the tournament for his play on the blue line and his leadership with the team
