Generals trade Mitchell Vande Sompel to London Knights

January 9th, 2016

Oshawa, ON- The Generals has sent veteran Defenseman Mitchell Vande Sompel to the London Knights in return for rookie Defenseman Ian Blacker and draft picks.

“Mitchell is a former 1st round pick of the Generals and a coveted player by our organization and a fantastic player for the time he was here” said Vice President and General Manager Roger Hunt. “He has phenomenal skating ability which allows him to be a threat offensive and defensively on the ice.”

Mitchell was an impact player from the first time he stepped on the ice for Coach DJ Smith, through his time representing Team Canada at the U-17s, U-18s and became a Memorial Cup Champion. Joining a long list of Islanders draft picks, Mitchell was drafted by the Islanders following the Generals 2015 Memorial Cup win. His excellence continued through to current Generals coach Bob Jones.

“He will be missed by the organization but the opportunity for Mitchell to return home to London and play for his hometown London Knights is what we felt was a great opportunity for him to round out his junior career” said Hunt.

In return, the Generals also receive draft picks:blacker

2 x 2nd

1 x 3rd

1 x 3rd Cond.

Blacker is a 4th round selection suiting up for 23 games with London in his rookie season.

We want to thank Mitchell for his efforts and dedication as he leaves the Generals and we wish him continued success in all his future endeavours.
