Generals’ Studnicka added to Canada’s National Under-18 Team

Poprad, Slovakia – Hockey Canada announced Sunday that 2017 NHL Draft prospect Jack Studnicka of the Oshawa Generals has been added to Canada’s roster for the 2017 World Under-18 Hockey Championship already underway in Poprad and Spisska Nova Ves, Slovakia.

Studnicka, whose Oshawa Generals were eliminated from the OHL Playoffs on Saturday, will join Team Canada following tournament victories over Latvia and Slovakia.

An 18-year-old from Tecumseh, Ont., Studnicka recorded 18 goals, 34 assists and 52 points in 64 games with Oshawa in his sophomore season. He was ranked 120th among North American skaters in NHL Central Scouting’s Final Draft Rankings released last week.

He joins eight other OHL players on Team Canada including goaltender Jake McGrath (Sudbury Wolves) and forwards Ty Dellandrea (Flint Firebirds), MacKenzie Entwistle (Hamilton Bulldogs), Matthew Strome (Hamilton Bulldogs), Liam Hawel (Guelph Storm), Isaac Ratcliffe (Guelph Storm), Nate Schnarr (Guelph Storm) and Akil Thomas (Niagara IceDogs).

Canada takes on Switzerland on Monday at 9:30am ET.
